Gloucester Rugby Foundation

Maddy’s Mark is in proud partnership with Gloucester Rugby Charitable Foundation. Our project, Maddy’s Captains, is a transformative programme designed to promote positive mental health, physical wellbeing, and personal development in young women through the power of rugby.

Built on a shared commitment to removing barriers to participation, Maddy’s Captains focuses on engaging girls who may not otherwise have access to rugby, particularly those from underrepresented and disadvantaged communities.

The programme delivers 12 weeks of in-school activity, combining curriculum and extracurricular sessions led by Gloucester Rugby Charitable Foundation coaches. Designed to be engaging, purposeful, and inclusive, the programme will provide a safe and supportive environment where young women can develop not only as players, but as confident and resilient individuals.

Alongside rugby-based activity, participants will take part in classroom workshops exploring important life skills and wellbeing topics, including stress management, resilience, teamwork, leadership, healthy relationships, and navigating social media. By combining physical activity with personal development, Maddy’s Captains aims to equip young women with the tools they need to thrive both on and off the pitch.

Upon completing the programme, participants gained access to a range of unique enrichment opportunities, including visits to Kingsholm Stadium, Gloucester Rugby matchday experiences, career and leadership workshops at our Maddy’s Mark Schools festival in June and the chance to play on the iconic Kingsholm pitch and with other Maddy’s Mark groups invited to attend. These experiences are designed to foster aspiration, belonging, and self-belief, while creating memories that will inspire young women long into the future.

  • Introducing rugby and increasing physical activity levels
  • Building confidence and resilience skills for young girls
  • Creating opportunities and experiences for a range of children who might not have the chance to play, meet role models and visit Kingsholm.
